Making Of “his story: the musical” (IN POST)
A LEAP OF FAITH
In Dallas, Texas, the buckle of the Bible belt, a team of Broadway professionals including Tony Award nominees Jeff Calhoun (Disney’s Newsies) and Bruce Lazarus (Say Goodnight Gracie) come together around a 22-year-old songwriter, attempting to mount her original musical about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The efforts involved are, much like Texas, massive: the Herculean construction of a state-of-the-art permanent performance tent to house the show, six tense weeks from first rehearsal to opening night, a Broadway-style cast recording, brand-new choreography, and plenty of tests of faith. With millions of dollars on the line, the team of “His Story” and its cast made up mostly of local talent know the pressure they’re under, as their faith in the show is put to the test.
Patchwork Piñata is currently in post-production on a full-length documentary — as well as myriad social media deliverables —chronicling the making-of “His Story: A New Musical” from first rehearsal to opening night. The film features several sit-down interviews with the creative team and cast members, and captures all of the pivotal moments, laughs, tears, and triumphs that come with the making of a new musical.
